I’ve been writing professionally for my entire adult life, but my love of writing and storytelling started long before my career did, at the ripe, old age of seven.
I had just started the second grade. The assignment was to write about something we did over the summer, and I had the perfect story to tell. It was about a trip to the beach that involved my uncle, a kite and a giant hole in the sand nobody warned him about. Filled with drama, suspense and ill-timed laughter from some of my less compassionate relatives, it became a legend in my family.
I took my first journalism class in high school, and I was hooked. I spent the year writing ledes, conducting interviews and crafting stories about the trials and tribulations of high school life.
I attended the University of Maryland at College Park, where I earned a bachelor’s degree in journalism. While completing my course work, I decided to use my writing experience to help businesses and non-profit organizations tell their stories.
I landed my first “real” job with a Montessori school, where I wrote and edited content for the school’s publications, planned and promoted events and responded to parent inquiries about the school and the Montessori philosophy.
I joined the ranks of an independent commercial insurance broker as a marketing manager. In this role, I wrote and edited copy for the company’s marketing materials, intranet site and advertisements.
In 2005, I left the commercial insurance industry to take a job in the world of consumer financial services, where I stayed for nearly six years. During my stint, I added executive ghostwriting, internal communications, and crisis communications (thanks to the market collapse of 2008 and subsequent financial crisis) to my resume.
I successfully defended my thesis and earned a master’s degree in communication management, with an emphasis on strategic public relations and integrated communications, from Towson University.
I left the corporate world and launched my freelance writing business. I’ve helped clients in a variety of industries create content that drives stakeholder engagement, builds credibility and positions them as an authority in their field.
